How painting miniature horrors became therapeutic.

"I woke up like this."

That's what the skeletons tell me. "I died and I woke up. What will I dress myself in? There's not a lot of options at a gravesite. All the clothes have rotted away. Perhaps I'll use this discarded ribbon or this empty shell?"

In any case, they tell me what they want. I dress them and name them. And painting them comes from a place of joy. And they relax me.

I've always been fascinated with school portraits.

As a child I spent hours flipping through old yearbooks and looking at school photos. My sister was 5 years older and all of her classmates looked so cool. It was a test of my creativity each year to take a "cool" portrait. I rarely succeeded. But my love for school portraits has never waivered.

I hope my little friends bring you the same joy they've brought me. -Cari
